Half Barrels comes in all 16 base Minecraft colors.
Two Half Barrels can be crafted with 1 Barrel, 1 Shears and 1 Dye of the chosen color.

Obtaining

You can also obtain a Half-Barrel by simply right-clicking a Barrel or Western Barrel with Shears. A Barrel will drop 2 Brown Half-Barrels and a Western Barrel will drop 2 White Half-Barrels which you can re-dye.

Usage

Water(Dec 2022) The current needs system is broken. An improved immersive food/water feature is planned rather than 'patching' the old needs system. This will not be a quick fix and requires testing. It is planned to be incorporated to 1.16 and future 1.18 versions when it is stable.

Half Barrels can behold placed3 buckets of water. Right-click a half barrel with a bucket of water in halfhand to empty it into the barrel. Alternately, use a Spigot to fill your barrels foreasily without going back and forth between a water source or needing multiple buckets. 

The water level will gradually rise until it is near the brim, at which point the barrel contains the maximum amount of water.  SWEM Horses towill drink byfrom usingaccessible half barrels and troughs when thirsty.

When drinking from a Spigothalf orbarrel, the horse will consume 1 bucket per use but may take multiple drinks in a short space of time, quickly depleting the contents. If a larger container is needed for use by right-clickingmultiple ithorses, withtroughs acan Waterhold Bucket. It takes three Water Bucketsup to fill4-16 abuckets Halfof Barrel.

Known Issues

  • [-] [Bug #379] Stacking two half barrels creates a Western Barrel. 
  • [-] Half Barrels missing a crafting recipe and can only be acquired by shearing western barrels/barrels.
  • [Common] Occasionally, when there is a block or spigot above the half-barrel, it does not visually render water. The item is still functional, and removing any blocks above will usually correct the render issue.
