Usage

Saddles are used to ride tamed horses, but the horse must also have a bridle on to be controlled and the saddle will fall off without a girth strap. Before a saddle can be placed on a horse, the horse must have a saddle blanket on. A saddle is placed on a horse by right-clicking with the saddle in hand, or by opening the horse's inventory and placing it in the saddle inventory slot.
