Bonding and Skills
SWEM Horses
The SWEM horse has the capacity to upgrade 'skills' that increase their stats or abilities in various areas. These skills start at 0 when a horse is tamed and experience points are gained through various training methods, increasing until the horse reaches the next level. It is the increase of levels themselves that result in stat or ability upgrades and not the experience amount of a level.
Speed
Speed is the skill that dictates how fast your horse can move at certain gaits. It is also important to note that Walk, Trot, and Canter are universal speeds and are not altered by speed levelling - these universal speeds were added for convenience of multiplayer servers where certain disciplines or leisure activities might require players to ride at a uniform speed.
A rider can increase a horse's speed skill by riding it. Speed potions can be found in loot chests or acquired from the creative inventory, which will increase speed skill by a small amount per use.
Level 1 | Level 2 | Level 3 | Level 4 | Level 5 | |
Experience Req. | --- | 1350 | 3038 | 4050 | 5063 |
Walk | 3bps | 3bps | 3bps | 3bps | 3bps |
Trot | 5bps | 5bps | 5bps | 5bps | 5bps |
Canter | 11bps | 11bps | 11bps | 11bps | 11bps |
Extended Canter | 11bps | 13bps | 15bps | 17bps | 19bps |
Gallop | 13bps | 15bps | 18bps | 20bps | 22bps |
Other information about speed:
- The gait will reset to Walk when a rider no longer moves the horse forward (pressing W) or following a refusal.
- A horse that is hungry and thirsty cannot go into canter, extended canter, or gallop.
Jump
Jump is the skill that increases the height (in blocks) that your horse can jump. All horses can jump 1 block initially, and up to 5 blocks maximum.
A rider can increase a horse's jump skill by jumping the horse. Jump potions can be found in loot chests or acquired from the creative inventory, which will increase jump skill by a small amount per use.

Horses automatically receive Jump L2 on reaching Affinity L3 (Tolerant)
These are the default experience values. If players or servers adjust the config values, required experience will be different.
A horse's jump has a natural arc that increases after 'launch' and declines before they land, and their jump height refers to the highest point of that arc. This means that SWEM horses need more space between jumps to allow the rider to approach, charge their jump, release to launch and make it over the obstacle at the highest point of the jump.
Other information about jump skill:
- Like vanilla horses, the forward motion of a jump relies on the rider (by pressing W) or the horse will jump on the spot.
- It is very common for horses to refuse often at low level affinity - it is far easier to train horses that are well bonded.
- All levels require a short time between jumps, increasing the importance of appropriate jump spacing (strides).
- Lower level jumps have a shorter animation and spend less time in the air, so travel a shorter distance over a jump.
- Higher level jumps have a longer animation with more time in the air, meaning they can jump high OR far by comparison. A maxed jump, max speed horse could (with the right timing/charge) jump up to 11blocks on a flat.
- Higher gait can influence the distance (not height) a horse can jump by giving them faster forward motion in the jump animation. This makes it technically possible to do a 5B tall triple bar jump that spans 5B length at gallop that would not be possible in canter!
Jump testing levels and combinations of jumps on the Beta server. This image represents the maximum complexity jump a SWEM horse could reasonably do; a triple bar with 3, 4, and 5 high rails with one block spacing between (requires gallop).
Affinity
Affinity is the skill that determines a horse's connection with riders which impacts their chances of refusing to jump or increase gaits. Lower level horses refuse often, where higher levels or maximum bonded horses do so rarely.
A rider can increase a horse's affinity by riding with them, brushing, and using desensitization items. Affinity potions can be found in loot chests, or acquired from the creative inventory, which will increase affinity by a small amount per use.

Health
Health is the attribute that increases the hitpoints (heart) of a SWEM horse, Horses start with 20 hitpoints (10 hearts) of health.
Horse's health can be increased by optimum daily nutrition. A horse needs to eat not just enough to stay alive, but the right kind of food to make it healthy and strong.
Health potions can be found in loot chests, or acquired from the creative inventory, which will increase health by a small amount per use.
Health gained from nutrition will not be functional in V1 until an improved food system is implemented (in progress).

Known Issues
- [Rare] Horse stats reset to L1 (0XP) - possible factors are significant updates (unlikely unless the update significant overhauls horses and skills) and server related updates or alterations. Very rare and unknown cause/solution.
