Riding (WIP)

THIS PAGE IS VALID FOR VERSION 1.20.1-1.1.1 AND ABOVE - INFO MAY NOT BE ACCURATE TO OLDER RELEASES!

Introduction

Horses can be tamed, equipped with a range of cosmetics and ridden with expanded functionality.

Taming

Horses can trigger a fatal "buck off" if a horse kicks out at another (kicks back etc). It's not an intentional risk but it is possible.

Riding an untamed horse (right-click with an empty hand) will usually dismount the player and display gray particles. The horse may choose to buck of rear. Note that bucking harms entities in an area of effect, so back up quickly to avoid taking damage!

After several attempts to reduce the "temper", successful taming will be evident by heart particles while remaining mounted.

Tacking

Lite has a reduced tack selection and less equipment slots to the "normal" mod.

Right-click a horse with an empty hand to access its inventory. This menu displays the four available equipment slots on the left:

  • Bridle Slot
  • Saddle Slot
  • Armor Slot
  • Saddle Bag Slot
  • The last icon is not a slot, but a button to access the saddlebag (if equipped inventory)

You can equip tack in any order by dropping an compatible item into the slot, or right-clicking the horse (outside the menu) with it in hand. If they are wearing an item of that type currently, shift and right-click to "hotswap" it!

Riding

If your controls don't work check keybindings are correctly assigned or not conflicting with another function / mod.

Horses must be equipped with a bridle and saddle to control direction and speed. There are two control - standard or tank controls.
The method to change speeds ("gaits") is the same - use G/H to increase or decrease gaits through the five options:

  • Walk
  • Trot
  • Canter
  • Extended Canter
  • Gallop

Gait speed can be altered by speed skill. Read more about skills  HERE

Standard (Default)
W to move forward and mouse controls direction. A/D keys control lateral left and right movement without affecting camera angle.
S resets the gait to walk.

Tank Controls  PRESS N TO TOGGLE ON/OFF
W to move forward, and A/D to turn smoothly left or right. If held down, the horse will perform a perfect circle movement in a size that depends on the current gait (faster gait, wider circle). Camera angle can be freely controlled with the mouse without affecting horse movement. Tank controls are great for precision riding with dressage or coordinated group routines.

Flight

Horses must be equipped with a bridle, saddle and amethyst tier armor (any with wings) to allow flight.

Key Action Description
J Launch Initiate flight and launch horse 7B into the air.

Glide Default state with no controls active - moves forward and slowly decreases altitude (height).
W Accelerate Increases speed (up to max) without increasing altitude.
A Bank Left Rotates the horse in a gradual left turn - altitude is decreased unless moving forward W
D Bank Right Rotates the horse in a gradual right turn - altitude is decreased unless moving forward W
Space Elevate Increases the altitude without forward movement.
Space + W Rise Increases the altitude while moving forward.
LShift Flutter Decreases the altitude without moving forward - useful for precise landings.
LShift + W Dive Decreases the altitude while moving forward.
S Float Decreases speed to a stop and holds position without losing altitude (hover).

Land Landing occurs when a horse touches a block. This includes collision with blocks (terrain).

Summary: J Launch W Move A/D Steer Space Up Shift Down S Hover. Think creative flying but no mouse steering!
